At Kingdom House, our volunteers are integral to serving our community. On this page you will find a list of the ways you can get involved with us.  Please note: If you are looking to schedule your group to volunteer at Kingdom House, please provide us with at least a month's notice (sometimes more, depending on the time of year) in order to accommodate you.  We only accept group reservations over the phone:  314-627-1232.

CURRENT ONE-TIME GROUP NEEDS

  • Volunteers needed for data entry:  Transfer basic demographic information from one database into another.  No specific skills--beyond basic computer knowledge--necessary.

ONGOING INDIVIDUAL OPPORTUNITIES BY DEPARTMENT

(Many opportunities are linked to a viewable job description.)

Youth and Neighborhood Services:

Tutors/Mentors

  • Help elementary aged children in math, science and reading Monday through Friday from 3:30pm to 6:30pm.  Seeking both college and high school volunteers.

Coaches

  • Coaches are needed on evenings and weekends for soccer, basketball, baseball, and cheerleading.

Summer Camp

  • Look after campers who arrive to the building early, 7am-9am.  Escort clients to and from the thrift store, 10am-12pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Chaperone day care kids to swimming lessons and assist during lessons.

Family Support Services:

Thrift Shop 

  • Open shop, sell items to clients, close shop on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am-12pm.  ***Current need as of 1/24/12:  Shopping assistants needed to expand thrift store hours to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.***

Food Pantry

  • Stock pantry shelves. Assist clients with shopping during weekdays, 10am-2pm.

Layette Assemblers

  • Three or four times a year, groups of five to ten people are needed to sort and pack infant layettes.

Day Care:

Infant/Toddler Center

  • Watch children on a regular basis in order to increase one-on-one attention.

Older Classrooms

  • Teach a foreign language or music once a week.  Assist with regular classroom activities.

Gardening Program:

During the height of the growing season, vegetables and herbs grown right on our grounds are used in the Kingdom House Day Care, After School Program, and Food Pantry.

Other Opportunities:

Office

  • Data entry, answer phone, mail preparation, typing on regular basis or on special call. ***Current needs as of 3/7/11: Stamping envelopes once per month for finance department.  Development department: office organizing and upkeep; follow up with donors; investigate positive stories to spread about the agency.***

Maintenance

  • Outside and inside grounds maintenance and gardening on a regular basis.
