KINGDOM HOUSE FOOD PANTRY
The Kingdom House Food Pantry serves registered
clients of Kingdom House, the homeless and some others referred
because of emergency situations.
In just the first 3 weeks of April 2008, 98 people
have used the pantry, averaging 16 people a day. In 2007, 1096
individuals visited the food pantry. When considering household
size, this means about 4,000 persons received approximately $100,000
worth of food. Nine-tenths of the food was donated, and the other
tenth was purchased with cash donated to the pantry.
When a client comes to the food pantry, they are free to choose
food items to suit their needs. Clients living with others receive
two grocery bags to fill; individuals receive one bag. They also
receive paper products, when available. Personal care items are
like gold, as they cannot be purchased with food stamps.
Currently, food is purchased with cash donations to
supplement the stock of donated food. Some food is purchased from the
local food bank, the rest at Aldi.
The Volunteer Pantry Coordinator has helped maintain
regular supplies of food donations from local churches and other sources
so there is always sufficient supply to serve the clients’ constant needs.
In the coming months there will be more regular communication with the
United Methodist churches in the district to discuss ways they might
support the pantry.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
KINGDOM HOUSE UPDATE |
|
|
From: Andrea Dent, Volunteer Pantry Coordinator
Date: May 8, 2008
We have all noticed the large increase in gas prices lately. The increases
are showing up in other places as well, like groceries. This is hard on all of us, but it is
particularly hard on the clients at Kingdom House who have a very limited income.
In the last two months there has been a significant increase in the number
of clients using the pantry. The total for the month of April was 183 families!(85 clients
in April 2007) With each client receiving two bags of groceries, that comes to a grand total
of 366 bags of groceries.
It seems we are on the same track for the month of May, as there were 21
clients that came to the food pantry on May the 7 th...That is just one day! (29 clients total
in May 2007)
OK, so how can you help? There are a couple of ways and they are so easy.
The first is to pick up a few extra food items when you shop for your family and drop them
off at Kingdom House. The second way is to make a cash donation to Kingdom House marked for
the food pantry. This money will be used by a volunteer shopper to buy what is needed for
the pantry.
If we all work together we can help ease the burden for the clients at
Kingdom House in this economically trying time. Let's keep those pantry shelves full!
Want to go one step further and have your own food drive? Call me and I
can share some fun ideas and friendly competitions. |

ADVANCE SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES
Through the ministry of Kingdom House
The Infant and Toddler Center
Advance Code Number 561320-1
High risk children between the ages of 3 and 24
months, many with teen mothers, are cared for in our Infant and
Toddler Center. Most of the 32 children served daily come from homes
which are low income and minority with working parents, many of
whom are single. For the majority of these parents, there is no one
else available to help care for the child. Your contribution will
help continue this service so that the parents of these infants can
work or complete their educations. These are important steps toward
breaking the cycle of poverty.
Child Advocacy Project
Advance Code Number 561225-2
Designed to attack the problem of child abuse
and neglect, this program provides respite child care, parent
education and support services aimed at strengthening families.
Centered in the Near Southside, CAP serves an impoverished
neighborhood in Saint Louis. The vision which guides CAP is of
children nurtured by positive relationships with adults -
relationships built on trust, truthfulness, compassion and respect
for differences.
Church and Community Worker
Advance Code Number 982987
Shay Blackwell is a Church and Community Worker
assigned to the Child Advocacy Project / Soulard. As such, she is
part of a covenant community devoted to uplifting the poor and
disenfranchised in rural and urban areas. Your contribution to
this Advance Special helps the General Board of Global Ministries
provide their half of the financial support of Ms. Blackwell and
is a step toward reversing the destruction brought about by
poverty and its tragic effects on people's lives.

they can become a tax deduction. A guide can be found on this
